The National Roundtable on Climate Change Education (CCE) in Teacher Education took place in November 2023, with scholars, teacher educators, researchers, teachers, school board staff, and doctoral students from 26 faculties of education across Canada in attendance. The purpose of the National Roundtable was to identify promising practices, curricula and pedagogy in CCE; develop criteria for seed grants to improve CCE in preservice and inservice professional learning; and discuss what is needed within faculties of education to improve CCE policy and practice. The day-long consultation drew on the expertise of those focused on researching, designing and implementing CCE across Canada, resulting in the findings of a report (found below), which we hope will be used to better embed CCE into Canadian teacher education and raise awareness about the important roles of teacher education in addressing the climate crisis. It will also support related the implementation of the Association of Canadian Dean’s of Education’s Accord on Education for a Sustainable Future as well as other policy documents from the federal government.
